Craft & process

The slow, deliberate way

Old patience held to a contemporary standard. Four steps, no shortcuts — nothing leaves our hands until the joints disappear.

01

Consultation

We visit, measure and listen — understanding how you live in a space before a single tile is chosen.

02

Design

Layouts, veining and colour are drawn to scale, so you see the finished room before we begin.

03

Sourcing

We hand-select slabs at the quarry and glaze zellige to order — no two batches ever alike.

04

Installation & Handover

Our maalems set every piece on site, level and true, then seal and hand back the room spotless.

Client words

Trusted with the surfaces that last

“They book-matched a single block of Calacatta across our entire kitchen. Guests think it's one impossible slab.”

Yasmine BerradaHomeowner, Marrakech

“The zellige wall is the first thing every guest comments on. The colour is genuinely alive.”

Karim FassiBoutique hotelier

“Dead-level floors, invisible joints, delivered on schedule. This standard of finishing is rare.”

About the atelier

Old hands, modern lines

Maison Zellij was born in the tile quarters of the medina, where zellige has been chiselled by hand for eight centuries. We carry that patience into every project — the slow, deliberate work of setting stone that will outlast its makers.

What has changed is the precision. Laser-levelled substrates, calibrated slabs, book-matched veining planned to the millimetre — the old craft held to a contemporary standard. Nothing leaves our hands until the grout lines run true and the joints disappear.

We take on a handful of commissions each year and treat every surface as one. From a single carved basin to a full marble staircase, the maalem's hand is on every tile.
